Original oil painting on panel by Georg Wolf c.1920. Georg Wolf was born in Niederhausbergen in 1882 he studied at the Academy of Strasbourg before graduating around 1900. He immediately commenced his career as a professional painter and chose to work primarily in oil paints. His subjects were usually rural scenes and were nearly always populated with farm animals and farm laborers about their tasks. Many of his works reflect the influence of Heinrich Zugel and as with Zugel himself, frequently depicted cattle. His work enjoyed immense popularity in the 1920’s and 1930’s when it was well reviewed by the critics of the day.
Georg Wolf died in the town of Uelzen in 1962. Signed lower left old gallery label on verso. In excellent condition. A beautiful painting.
