Original gouache and watercolor "Sail Boats at Sunset" signed lower right by Renowned American artist Edmund Darch Lewis. Lewis exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1854-69) and was elected an associate of the Academy in 1859. He also showed at the National Academy of Design in New York (1860), the Boston Athenaeum (1858-69), and the Brooklyn Art Association (1862-70). Beautifully Framed and Matted. Image 8.5"L x 19.5W. framed size 16" L x 27" W.

Artist Biography,

Landscape painter. Born on Aug. 26, 1865 in Stockton, CA when it was still a small frontier town. Mersfelder began drawing at an early age and in his teens moved to San Francisco where he studied for three years at the School of Design under Virgil Williams. While studying at that school, he often visited the nearby studio of William Keith who offered criticism. Mersfelder then moved to NYC where he had a studio for a few years. During his stay there, he exhibited at the first exhibition of the Society of American Artists. He also enjoyed the hospitality and criticism of George Inness and A. H. Wyant. He later exhibited in Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, and Baltimore. He won a bronze medal at the Louisiana Purchase Expo (St Louis) of 1904 and was awarded the Klio Assn prize at the annual exhibition held at the AIC where 18 of his canvases were accepted by the jury. He had a studio in Portland, OR in 1889 before returning to San Francisco in 1891. He was active in the local art scene when not out on painting forays in northern California. The year 1915 was spent in San Diego. Mersfelder lived his final years in Berkeley, CA and died there on Oct. 23, 1937. Although he made no known European trips, his works bear evidence of strong influence by the French Barbizons. Many of his landscapes of the rugged, old oaks of California compare favorably with those painted by William Keith during his late period. Exh: Calif. Antique Portrait of a beautiful young girl oil on canvas signed on reverse Pankratz Korle and dated 1844. Pandratz Korle (1823-1875) is a well listed painter and highly regarded painter. This charming portrait of a girl in a white dress with a pink shawl is masterfully painted. A portrait by Korle sold at auction for $6,103 in November of 2005. Measuring approx. 24x28 inches framed in a antique gold leaf frame 27x32 overall. The painting is in very good condition although with age cracklure and one small 1/4 in. touch up. A fine decorative antique painting.

Original Watercolor painting Modernist Seascape by Harold Christopher Davies, signed lower right. From the estate of the artist and the Hoover Gallery, San Francisco. Davies' work was exhibited at the San Francisco Art Association, the Oakland Art Gallery, the Birmingham Museum, the Southampton Museum, the University of Long Island Museum, the Parrish Art Museum, the Hoover Gallery, the Haggin Museum, and the Huntsville Museum. Image 13.5"L x 17"W. Framed 21.5" L x 25" W.

Gustav Adolph "Dolph" Hensel was born in Germany and came to the U.S. in 1906. He was a Lutheran minister who settled in Wisconsin and later moved to San Francisco, where he was pastor of St. John's Reform Church until 1922. Hensel was also an artist who mainly painted portraits and religious genre. He spent three years as a missionary in Africa during the 1920s, and it may have been during this period that he painted this middle eastern scene. His nickname was "Dolph" and many of his paintings are signed 'D. Hensel," as in this example. Presented in the original frame canvas 12" x 14".

A 18th century Dutch painting school of Jan Vermeer of an interior scene Picturing a woman at work in a traditional 17th century kitchen. Oil on oak panel signed lower right P.V. Ameyden beautifully painted framed in a gilt decorative frame. Measuring approx. 12.5 in. by 14.5 in. framed size 16.5 x 18.5 inches. A fine decorative painting would be a nice addition to any collection.

Antique Italian oil painting portrait of a Cardinal by J. Rampollo signed lower left and titled on the reverse. The painting c.1890 is oil on board measuring approx. 10 in. by 15.5 inches. Framed in a beautiful antique gilt frame measuring 16.5 in. by 22.5 inches. The painting is in excellent condition the frame has some minor losses but shows very nicely and is ready to hang. J. Pampollo a highly skilled painter know for portraits of Cardinals and clergy.

Classical bronze figure of a Grecian woman with robe and sandals alongside a urn and disc. Signed Evrard for Victor Evrard French 1807-1877 sculptor known for works in bronze. The bronze in is in excellent condition with a nice original patina measuring approx. 19 inches tall a fine piece.

Biography

SIMONPIETRI, Alfred H. (1916-2001). Painter. Born in Puerto Rico on June 20, 1916. While serving in the Army during World War Two, Simonpietri was in a plane crash. After the war he settled into a home in the Sunset District of San Francisco where he remained until his demise on December 2, 2001. An original antique oil painting of a Dutch or Flemish tavern scene after David Teniers painted late 18th century. Canvas size 9"L x 11"W. Framed size 12.5" L x 14.5" W. David Teniers the Younger (15 December 1610 – 25 April 1690) was a Flemish artist born in Antwerp, the son of David Teniers the Elder. His son David Teniers III and his grandson David Teniers IV were also painters.

Antique Bronze horse and trainer after Guillaume Coustou's famous marble created for Louis XIV's chateau at Marly, and that now stand at the entrance to the Champs-Élysées in Paris. It depicts a dramatic scene of a fiercely rearing horse being restrained by a struggling groom. 19th century measuring 9" L x 18" W x 20" H. Good antique condition.

A beautiful and rare large Chinese Ceramic foo dogs or temple lions. Date from the 19th century with a deep green glaze. In very good condition no damage or restoration an measuring and impressive 24 inches tall by 12 x 8 inches. An interior decorators dream.

A fine western bronze of two cow girls by Edward Fraughton born 1939 a Utah artist is a highly regarded sculptor of western bronzes. This example of two charming western girls is finely detailed and in excellent condition. Measuring approx. 12.5 inches tall signed and numbered 8 of 30 and dated 1971. A bronze by Fraughton sold at for 10,350 at Altermann Galleries on 10/23/04. A fine example would be a nice addition to any collection of western or Utah art.

A fine antique French ink well set of gilt bronze and a black marble base adorned with a bronze bust of a Roman soldier signed Richaud & Cie Measuring approximately 16 inches long and 12 inches high in excellent condition.

An exqusite example of Japanese imari in a coverd bowl with intricate hand painted designs of dragons pheonix birds shishi and roosters artists signed "Kutani". Richly embelished with 24k gold decorations. In excellent condition no chips or cracks some minor glaze crazing in interior of lid overall the condition is incredible. Measuring approx 10.5inches wide by 5 inches tall a masterpiece of museum quality.

Serge Ivanhoff Ink and watercolor figural studies signed and and noted Paris. image 8"x10.5" framed 17" x 19". Serge Petrovitch Ivanoff was born in Moscow in 1893 and showed artistic ability from a young age. On the family’s move to St. Petersburg, he took the opportunity to further his artistic studies by enrolling at the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1917, at the height of the Russian Revolution. The turmoil of the aftermath of these events prompted Serge Ivanoff, with his wife and two young children, to move permanently to Paris in 1922. A talented portraitist, he quickly established himself in Paris and soon had the celebrities of the day commissioning him to paint their portraits, including Pope Pius XI, the dancer and choreographer Serge Lifar, poet Paul Valery, composer Arthur Honegger, and many notable Russian exiles now making their home in Paris. Between 1930 and 1950, he also regularly provided illustrations for the French journal L’Illustration, and painted a series of luminous and lyrical nudes. In 1950 Serge Ivanoff moved to the U.S.A., again specialising in portraiture, including Eleanor Roosevelt and the diplomat Jefferson Caffery amongst his subjects. However, by the 1960s he had returned to Paris where he continued to exhibit regularly at the Salon des Indépendants, receiving a Gold Medal from the Minister of Cultural Affairs, André Malraux, in 1966. Serge Ivanoff died in Paris in 1983.
