Portrait of a woman with a book after a painting by H Goltius by Cornelis Ploos Van Amstel. Signed and dated on verso 1770. Image size: 8" x 10". overall framed size 13 x 16 ". A rare example of early color printing Van Amstel was a pioneer in using color ink on early prints.
Biography
Van Amstel an avid art collector and a pupil of Norbert van Bloemen and Jacobus Buys. He later became a member of the Amsterdam artist society Arte et Amicitia (De Kunstkrans). He was known as a collector and copyist of 17th-century artists. His pupils were Christina Chalon, William V, Prince of Orange, Elisabeth van Woensel, and Hermanus Petrous Schouten .
