A fine vintage Navajo Indian Teec Nos Pos rug, woven by Bessie Little Pouch. Featuring a centering double diamond hooked medallion design with geometric accents on all sides, feather pairs in the center, within finely serrated surrounds and a split wing border. Woven in tan, beige, black, red, orange, white and gray. Measuring approx. 6 ft. 4 in. x 3ft. 10 inches in very fine condition.

The Teec Nos Pos style of Navajo weaving is a bold, exciting and elaborate design. Many believe this style developed from pictures of Persian rugs while others see no connection and believe that traders introduced this design to the Navajo People from designs on flour sacks. The name, which means "Cottonwoods in a Circle," comes from a settlement in the northeast corner of the Navajo Nation. Always surrounded by a wide border and filled with an exuberant variety of motifs, Teec Nos Pos style rugs are usually large, and therefore very expensive. An elaborate center is enhanced with stylized feathers and arrows. Steps and angular hooks extend from the points of diamonds and triangles, while zigags are abundant. The many, brightly colored yarns are used to create a visually stunning design in the Teec Nos Pos style.

Mettlach stein number 1786, the St. Florian stein, is one of the most beautiful and skillfully crafted, etched and glazed steins produced by Villeroy & Boch during its "Golden Era", with artistry attributed to Otto Hupp. In excellent condition no damage or repairs

An exqusite example of enamel work on ginbari style foil background depicting a dragon swirling and coiling around the neck of the vase. Artist signed on the bottom measuring approx. 9.5 inches tall. In excellent condition but for some discoloration or tarnish on the silver foil under the enamel and some fine stress lines (see picture) overall a masterpiece of this Japanese art form.

A beautiful and finely woven vintage Navajo two grey hills rug. Design featuring an elaborate concentric medallion center stepped corner elements within a crenellated reciprocal border and solid outer frame in brown black white and grey. Measuring approx. 5 ft. 1 in. by 3 ft. 8 in. A fine example of this most desirable design of Navajo weaving in Very fine condition.

Two Grey Hills rugs are woven of natural, undyed, handspun wool in whites, blacks, & browns. Weavers produce subtle shades of these basic hues by carding together various colored wools. Because of the considerable time and effort required to prepare the wool for this style, weavings using these yarns may cost twice as much as those made from commercial yarns. Like other styles with borders, many Two Grey Hills rugs have a spirit line or spirit trail-- a single line of light colored weft near the top of the design, running through the border to the edge of the rug. This spirit line is meant to release the weaver's creative energies from the rug back to the Universe so that a weaver's spirit will not be trapped within the completed rug.

Sterling Tea Pot Hester Bateman London 1780 A beautiful Georgian silver teapot by Hester Bateman Of oval form with beaded rims and the sides and shoulder and lid decorated with bright cut and wheelwork decorations. The front side with a period monogram centered in a continious ribbon tied floral swag and drape garland. In excellent condition the lid hinge is a bit loose and the silver finial is probably a 19th century replacement. Measuring approx. 5 3/4 inches tall 11 inches excellent clear hallmarks overall weight 15 oz 10dwts.

Hester Bateman 1708 - 1794 Hester Batemans's long career began after the death of her husband John Bateman(1704-1760. John was a chainmaker in London, but little is known about him. After his death, Hester began to build the business, entering her first silver mark in 1761 and continuing to expand the business and went on to be one of the best known of the female silversmiths working in London during the 18th century.

Traditional hand painted mandarin figures and floral and butterfly motif. An 19th century example c.1880 a dinner plate measuring approx. 9 5/8 inches in good antique condition some wear to enamels no chips or cracks. A nice addition to any group or a great decorative piece on its own.

A vintage circa 1900 miniature bronze portrait of a horse finely detailed casting artist monogram on back. Measuring approx. 4 inches tall in excellent condition.

A beautiful Large Staffordshire blue transfer ware well and tree platter made by Clews circa 1825. The platter features a scenic view of travelers in a landscape with ruins and a floral border. Measuring an impressive 21 inches by 16.5 inches the condition is excellent but for a minor chip that was successfully reattached (see picture) . It is amazing that there are virtually no knife marks or signs of use for a piece nearly 200 years old. Overall this is a fine example of this wonderful art form of transfer ware.

A fine pair of Sheffield Silver Candlesticks by Mathew Boulton c.1790. Boulton a famed English inventor and manufacturer of fine Sheffield Silver Plate. Each candle stick is hall marked with the Boulton touch mark. Measuring 8.5" T x 4.5"W. in very good condition some copper showing through.

Rare and Exquisite Chinese hand carved and polychrome (painted) Buddha or Kwan-Yin statue c.1840. Carved with the most graceful details from one large piece of wood this epic Temple piece stands an impressive 40 inches tall. In good antique condition some worm damage on the back and base paint and color losses overall. Compartments once sealed in the back now opened were used to store blessed objects such as seeds pearls prayers for the returned grace and blessing of the statue. 5 volumes and supplement, 1861-1887 John Gould (1804-1881) was a British ornithologist, artist, and successful businessman. Sometimes referred to as the "English Audubon," Gould had an illustrious career in which he served as official taxidermist to King George IV and established himself as Queen Victoria's favorite illustrator of birds. Gould was so devoted to the study of birds that he asked for his epitaph to read: "Here lies John Gould, the Bird Man." Though he chronicled a wide variety of bird species, from partridges to toucans, spanning all corners of the globe from Great Britain to Australia, Gould had a particular interest in hummingbirds. He developed a personal collection of 1500 mounted and 3000 unmounted specimens, containing at least 300 different species of hummingbird. A Monograph of the Trochilidae represents Gould's stunning effort to create a comprehensive guide to all the varieties of hummingbird with a high degree of accuracy, detail, and beauty.Gould's five volumes on the hummingbird contain 360 hand-colored lithographic illustrations. Gould would draw rough pencil or watercolor sketches of hummingbird specimens, which then served as guides for a team of artists (including his wife, Elizabeth). Gould also worked with lithographers, who used pure gold and silver leaf (applied underneath the watercolor) to achieve a lifelike illustration of the hummingbird's iridescent feathers.

Chinese porcelain vase hand painted with the Three Sages of Happiness design motif. Tong Zhi period 1862-1874 in excellent condition measuring approx. 9 inches tall comes in a fitted silk lined box.

A beautiful Verlys glass charger or large bowl with cranes and japanes coy fish signed in the center measuring an impressive 13 1/4inches or 34 cm. in diameter the three dimensional glass moulded with opalescent cranes. In excellent condition a beautiful example of this fine French art glass.

Verlys Glass History

In 1920, the Societe Holophane Français was set up as a subsidiary of the USA Holophane Company in a glassworks near Rouen in Northern France to make vehicle headlights. By 1925, they had expanded into making art glass vases and bowls. They created a separate department for these products, and named it "Verlys". Initially the pieces were blown vessels with several layers of glass, smooth on the outside with internal decoration. From 1933 onward, Verlys focused on high quality press-mould glass. They produced clear, frosted, opalescent and colored items with designs typical of Lalique-style glass of the 1930s.

Sterling silver overlay porcelain tea service tea pot sugar and creamer. All in excellent condition without chips or cracks featuring a beautiful art nouveau silver overlay design. The tea pot measures approx. 8 in. by 8 in. the service is probably Lennox but it unmarked.

English rosewood traveling secretary circa 1850. These pieces were custom made for British Officers stationed in India and were brought home and have been widely collected. This is a particularly interesting example with a carved top brass banding and a exotic interior with place for correspondence and storage for writing utensils etc. It is mounted to a quality rosewood stand making it a nice side or lamp table. In good antique condition a repaired age crack due to shrinkage of the wood on the top and some minor wear.

Japanese Banko pottery art tea pot with beautiful enameled designs of cranes. Featuring a complex form with figured bamboo handle and a internal tea strainer impressed mark on bottom. Measuring approx. 6.5 inches tall from bottom to top of handle this piece is in excellent condition.

Banko pottery wares have been produced since the nineteenth century both for the domestic market and for export. Banko ware comes usually as teapots and has charming designs of a peculiar style. Some Banko pottery is unglazed while others can be very colorful and abundantly decorated with sculpture-like high reliefs in very imaginative shapes.

A beautiful Tiffany Favrile art glass large center bowl with engraved grape leaf designs signed LCT Favrile on bottom. A gold color with peacock blue hues accent this ribbed form bowl. Measuring approx. 12 inches across and 3 inches in depth in excellent condition no chips or cracks some minor use wear to center and bottom edge. A magnificent example of American art glass c. 1910.

Antique Bronze horse and trainer after Guillaume Coustou's famous marble created for Louis XIV's chateau at Marly, and that now stand at the entrance to the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Vintage Scrimshaw on Whales Tooth by Jon Laubin of a Schooner at full sale on both sides. Tooth 4 1/4 tall mounted on a custom wood stand. Jon Laubin was born in Hartford CT, Sailing lessons & a sailboat at age 14, a 20 year career in the U.S. Navy, traveling to foreign ports, exposure to ships of all kinds, and a love of nautical antiques, contributed to understanding the principles of accuratly drawing sailing ships. Around 1980,Jon started drawing and etching reverse scrimshaw on slate, which made nice custom coffee table tops and wall hangings. In 1981, Jon discovered whale teeth scrimshaw while visiting Mystic CT. Unable to afford antique prices, Jon started building a library of scrimshaw books & photos, buying the odd whale tooth or elephant ivory tusk tip, and started scrimming.Jon presented many of his old navy comrades with his early scrimshaws. His scrimshaw style emulates the journeyman whaler-scrimshander of the Victorian age.

Baccarat Crystal Roosters by Georges Chevalier c. 1950 with Baccarat acid etched stamp on bottom. Chevalier, A graduate of the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, in Paris, began working with Baccarat in 1916 ending his career there in the early 1970s. A journey, a life made of light. His designs earned the Crystalworks a place at the forefront of the history of the decorative arts. Both In excellent condition acid etched stamp is lightly worn. Measures 18" L x 5" W x 14.5" H. Chinese export porcelain bowl circa 1790 a beautiful example with hand painted floral sprays and a scalloped decorated rim. Measuring approx. 9 1/4 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep in excellent antique condition for a piece of its age with a couple of barely visible faint hairline stress cracks in the outside glaze probably from cooling in manufacturing and one minute flea bite on the outside rim (see pictures).
